William Hurt exits ‘Midnight Rider’ following camera assistant’s death

William Hurt has exited the troubled Gregg Allman biopic Midnight Rider, in the wake of camera assistant Sarah Jones’ death.

According to Deadline, the filmmakers are looking to recast many of the film’s roles, likely because the attached actors no longer want to be affiliated with the under-investigation project.

Production was halted in February after Jones was killed during shooting by an oncoming train while attempting to remove equipment from the tracks.

Hurt – who was playing 70s rocker Allman – was on the tracks at the time of the collision.

Director Randall Miller is hoping to pick up production in June, despite numerous petitions and protest Facebook pages calling for the feature’s abandonment.

It is so far unknown if any criminal charges will be filed, or if there will be any civil lawsuits in the tragedy’s aftermath.
