Hugh Jackman is not as keen to hang up the adamantium claws as he was just a few months ago, backtracking on his claims that he’d soon retire as Wolverine.
Speaking with IGN, on the X-Men: Days of Future Past press junket, Jackman revealed he’s “less sure” about handing over the reins to his defining screen character.
“Because after seeing this movie, the whole thing feels fresher to me than ever. And during this movie…I don’t want to spoil anything, but it’s kind of like a clean slate, so who knows where it’s going to go. As long as I have the passion for it, and the fans will have me.”
He’s still contracted for at least two more efforts: the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse and another solo Wolverine flick.
Jackman also expressed an interest in the (impossible) prospect of starring alongside The Avengers.
“There’s no doubt he’d get in a fight with Hulk at some point,” he said, knowing exactly which chords to pluck amongst comic book fans.
Fox and Disney’s respective strangleholds over the rights to the X-Men and Marvel franchises means this probably will never happen.
Although, Quicksilver is making appearances in both series; admittedly, under the guise of two different actors.
That’s just what happens when Magneto sires an eventual Avenger. Unless Logan reveals his mum is actually Black Widow, don’t expect their worlds to cross over any time soon.
