Jessica Chastain is set to play Marilyn Monroe in the long-gestating biopic Blonde, The Wrap reports.
New Zealand director Andrew Dominik was close to setting up Blonde a few years ago with Naomi Watts in the lead, but the release of another biopic, My Week with Marilyn, led to Dominik’s plans being put on hold.
Blonde is now back on track, with Zero Dark Thirty’s Chastain reportedly attached to play the legendary screen icon.
The film will be based on Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same name, and has been described by Dominik as a “sprawling, emotional nightmare fairy-tale type movie.”
Poppy Montgomery previously appeared in a 2001 adaptation of the novel.
Nothing has been officially confirmed, but production is expected to begin in August.
