The winners of the 50th L’Oreal Paris AFI awards were announced Saturday night at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre.
The Australian Film Institute selected the best films and television programs of the last 12 months.
The Black Balloon was the big winner, taking home Best Film, Best Direction (Elissa Down) and Best Original Screenplay. Luke Ford and Toni Collette were also named Best Supporting Actor and Actress for their performances in the hit film.
Unfinished Sky won 6 awards, including Best Actor (William McInnes) and Best Actress (Monic Hendrickx).
Summer Heights High was named Best Television Comedy Series, while star Chris Lilley also picked up Best Performance in a Television Comedy and the Byron Kennedy Award.
Underbelly took home Best Television Drama, as well as Best Direction, Editing and all four acting awards.
Heath Ledger and Cate Blanchett won International Awards for Best Actor and Actress for their respective roles in The Dark Knight and Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
The winner of a nationwide vote to find Australia’s favourite film was the Rob Sitch directed classic The Castle.
