Slumdog Millionaire wins Best Picture at NBR


Danny Boyle‘s Slumdog Millionaire has nabbed the first major Best Picture prize of the Oscar season, having earnt the accolade from The National Board of Review.

Slumdog also picked up Breakthrough Perfomance by an Actor for 18-year-old Dev Patel and tied with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Benjamin Button also nabbed the Best Director prize for David Fincher.

Clint Eastwood was named Best Actor for his work in Gran Torino, while Anne Hathaway walked away with the Best Actress gong for Rachel Getting Married.

Other winners include Mongol for Best Foreign Film, Man on Wire for Best Documentary and my favourite little robot WALL-E for Best Animated Feature.

The NBR also named it’s 10 best films of the year (excluding Slumdog Millionaire)

Burn After Reading
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Gran Torino
The Wrestler

Sadly, we won’t get to see Changeling, Defiance, Gran Torino, Milk and The Wrestler in Australia until next year.

However, Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Frost/Nixon all open Boxing Day.
